Peruvian artist JADE is now in the US invited to take part of the Forest for the Trees festival in Portland, Oregon.
‘La Pachamana nos contempla’/’Mother Earth is watching us’ depicts the image of a woman, the Pachamama depicts a woman leaning forward over a soft red surface. Her facial expression and body language expresses grief and her eyes seem to focus on the ghostly bird skull in the foreground. The scene is complemented by the image of a singing bird, maybe a messenger of tragic news?
Forest For The Trees is a non-profit project established in 2013 and dedicated to the creation of contemporary public art in Portland. The festival brings together local and international artists in a collaborative setting and provides them with the freedom and resources to create artworks in environments that are freely accessible to the local community. The mural festival’s name comes from the phrase They can’t see the forest for the trees, which signifies the inability to understand the greater picture when you’re too focused solely on what’s in front of you.
