Spanish artist Suso33 is back with this new and haunting mural painted as part of his recidency in Bilbao, Spain in occasion of “Scenographic representations of Bilbao Black Paintings 2015” at SC Gallery, his first solo exhibition in the Basque Country.
The new mural is characteristic of Suso33’s work is the simplicity of his shadowy human figures and the calmness and balance in the composition, but unlike earlier work, his figures are solid black shadows instead of the usual sketch-like style we are used to see in his mural work (here). I some way it reminds me of Anthony Gormley’s sculptures placed on the open landscape and the tremendous calmness and serenity they exhale as they stare impassively to the horizon.
