On Friday, September 16th Valencia-based gallery Plastimurs will be hosting a new solo show featuring the work of Crajes, a Barcelona-based artist duo composed of Carla Rendon and Jessica Ruiz.
Titled “Take This and Eat: My Body Broken For You” the exhibition features a compelling body of work that deals with the objectification and abuse of women in today’s society.
The titled of the exhibition, and the work presented, makes references to the bible, more specifically verse 25 in Corinthians 11:24 that reads as follows: “And when he had given thanks, he brake it (the bread), and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”. The work produced for the event addresses the idea of desire, pain and pleasure depicting “lusty female bodies abused time and time again by oppressive and violent actions” and inspired by “the ambiguity and provocation of contemplating a tearful female face flashing a grin that makes you doubt if whether she enjoys or rebels to be free thus leading us to reflection on the attractiveness of the recumbent body.”
The show opens on Friday, September 16th and will run through October 21st at the gallery located on Calle Denia 45, Valencia, Spain.
