waone_artrepublic_jacksonville_florida_1Ukrainian artist Waone from the popular ex-duo Interesni Kazki, began experimenting with black and white murals around a year ago in India. This new wall represents a continuation of that journey.
Titled “Danger of Extinction” and painted for Pangea SeedSea Walls: Murals for Oceans and Artsynonym in collaboration with Art RePublic in Jacksonville, Florida, the new mural aims to raise awareness about the North Atlantic whales, one of the most endangered species of all large whales. Once abundant in the eastern and western North Atlantic, now fewer than 500 survive in a reduced habitat range along the East Coast of the United States and Canada, this despite protective measures adopted since the early 1930s. A sad reality for many species.
Waone choose to discuss the whale issue, because during winter, female whales migrate to North Florida and Georgia to give birth in the coastal waters of Jacksonville, where this mural is located, becoming a symbol of hope for a brighter future.
