Danish KIRK Gallery just announced the line-up for Out in the Open’s fifth edition, a mural project launched by the gallery in 2014 and that this Spring will include renowned artist like Vhils (PT), Seth (FR), TelmoMiel (NL), Oliver Vernon (USA), Fintan Magee (AU), Joram Roukes (NL) and Nils Westergard (USA).
According to the organisers, the aim of the gallery by inviting all these artist to Aalborg, Denmark is to bring art closer to the people; hence the name of the festival, and share their passion for Street Art.
One of the first artists out is the Rotterdam-based Dutch duo TelmoMiel, composed of the artists Telmo Pieper and Miel Krutzmann who painted a this stunning mural titled “Exquisite Waste of Time”, as part of their solo show in which they question whether our constant impatience and desire for everything to go really fast, not necessarily leads to something better, making following remarks:
“Every loss of minutes feels as a waste.
Feelings aren’t always correct.
Sometimes I find myself worrying about the driver in front of
me doing 100 while he’s allowed to do 130. Or people standing
in front of the entrance of a store not knowing to go left or right.
Annoying as that can be, I always remind myself to take a breath
because haste is often egocentric.
We love efficiency, because time is short.
But short does not mean it’s worse than less short.. More time
does not mean better time.
So let’s keep this short and sweet, so it doesn’t feel as a waste.
Let’s just try to make any waste of time feel like an exquisite one.”
TelmoMiel define themselves as muralists and creators of contemporary art. In 20017 Telmo, a licensed illustrator and designer, met Miel, who was already active in the graffiti scene, but it wasn’t until 2012 that they started collaborating, after both had completed the their degrees at the Academy of Art. The two artists work with a photo-realistic style that focuses on contrasts. They work ideas separately, later combining both sketches and giving shape to surrealistic compositions with great attention to detail. They are also so into each others work that when working on a piece together, they are able to switch places when ever wanted or needed.
